The Swiss know how to welcome travelers. An outdoor relaxation area with a barbecue and picnic tables in the middle of the forest is accompanied by a large chalet where you can spend the night for free or simply take shelter in case of bad weather. A very pleasant surprise

A few minutes downstream from Goumois you will find this refuge and various barbecue areas. We used it as a bivouac site for one night. The road up to this point is asphalted, so the site is busy during the day. The gravel road to Moulin Jeannottat begins directly after the hut, where cars are prohibited.

The Rochedane rock shelter was discovered in 1877 during the construction of the railway line. This shelter is world famous for having delivered 77 engraved pebbles and 122 painted pebbles dated to the Azilian period between 11,000 years and 9,000 years before our era. Since its discovery, the shelter has attracted many unscrupulous excavators. Their work ended up destroying the prehistoric habitat in the center of the shelter without the findings having been the subject of scientific publications.

A rock overhang that was apparently used by humans in prehistoric times (about 10,000 years ago). This is evidenced by engraved and painted stones, which were found here during the construction of a railway. Here you can try out what it felt like to live in caves and under rock overhangs.
