Even in the middle of a drought year there was some water.

Must have been a mill or workshop that worked with water power. Rotating waves can be seen. The basement of the building is about 10 meters further down the gorge. At the top of the street you can see the third floor. Very interesting to see it up close!

Nice waterfall over the Pantanet ravine. A very quiet and picturesque place a few meters from the town of Alfafara and which is undoubtedly worth visiting

Up in the hills between Casa Rural Bons Aires and Alcoi we accidentally stumbled upon waterfalls. Quite impressive, frankly. From the point where you see the falls, there is a path that leads downhill, and that follows the Riu Barxell, a river that joins the Riu de Polop, which flows towards Alcoi.

From Casa Rural Bons Aires it takes about 20 minutes to reach the Riu de Polop, a small river that flows towards Alcoi. In the weekend you will find lots of tourists here. Not all of them seem to have found this spot on foot. There may be a parking somewhere. The paths next to the river can be very muddy in the winter or in spring. Your shoes will literally grow in size as they accumulate light gray layers of very sticky clay. This route was recorded on the 8th of May, after a period of heavy rains. Normally you can walk to Alcoi along the river, but this was not possible now. Not on sneakers anyway. In stead of following the river, we hiked uphill for a bit to skip a large part of muddy trails. An extra advantage is the solitude that you find in the hills.

While Bocairent itself doesn't feature dramatic, towering waterfalls, the area is rich in natural water features tied to the Clariano River. You'll find picturesque river areas with smaller cascades, natural pools, and historical weirs. The nearby Racó of Saint Bonaventure is a popular spot with a waterfall and picnic facilities, and the Clariano River Walk offers a peaceful experience with natural springs and historical watermills.
Yes, the most notable natural water feature for swimming is Pou Clar, located downstream from Bocairent in Ontinyent. It consists of a series of natural pools with crystal-clear waters, perfect for a refreshing dip. During July and August, reservations are required to visit Pou Clar, and access is managed to preserve its natural beauty.
The Clariano River Walk on the outskirts of Bocairent is an accessible pathway that follows a 30-minute stretch of the river. It's lined with reeds, water lilies, and poplars, and features natural springs. This walk offers a peaceful natural experience and highlights the historical use of water in the area.
The Clariano River Walk provides insight into Bocairent's past industrial heritage, with information panels explaining the watermills that powered textile factories along the riverbed. You can also see the remains of these factories along the Barranc de la Fos pathway. Additionally, you can explore the Ruins and weir on the Riu Clariano, which likely served as a mill or workshop using water power.

The best time to visit depends on your preference. During summer (July and August), Pou Clar is popular for swimming, but requires reservations. Spring (after heavy rains) can make river paths muddy, but also means more impressive water flow at places like Río Polop Waterfall. For general hiking and enjoying the natural beauty, spring and autumn offer pleasant temperatures.
Visitors frequently highlight the quiet setting and natural beauty of spots like the Racó of Saint Bonaventure. The picturesque waterfalls and the opportunity for picnics are often mentioned. The clear waters of places like Pou Clar and the historical insights provided by the Clariano River Walk also receive high praise.
While not entirely 'hidden,' the Pantanet Ravine Waterfall is described as a very quiet and picturesque place a few meters from the town of Alfafara, offering a serene experience away from more crowded spots.
To reach the Río Polop Waterfall, it takes about 20 minutes from Casa Rural Bons Aires. Be prepared for potentially muddy paths, especially in winter or spring after heavy rains. Even during drought years, there's usually some water flow. If the river path is too muddy, you can hike uphill for a bit to bypass difficult sections and enjoy more solitude in the hills.
