Beautiful spot. The Nidda has several barrages and weirs to regulate the water level.

It's simply great that something has also been done here along the Nidda regarding "re-naturalization".

The Schwalbacher Wald is an important local recreation area and nature reserve in Schwalbach am Taunus. It consists of over 90 percent deciduous trees and is protected as a Bannwald (special forest), underscoring its role for the local climate and nature conservation. A special feature is the old tree stands, which partly date back to historical use as a managed forest for grazing and give the forest a distinctive character. Particularly ecologically valuable is the Sauerbornsbachtal valley, which is under European protection as a Flora-Fauna-Habitat. Rare animal species such as the kingfisher, the great crested newt, and the Adonis blue butterfly find a safe habitat here. Along the streams, moist meadows and riparian forests shape the landscape, while information boards at the forest entrances inform visitors about the sensitive animal and plant world. The area offers a vast network of trails for jogging, cycling, and hiking for recreational activities. Families often use the forest playground on Schlesienstraße. Additionally, the forest borders directly on the Arboretum Main-Taunus, a spacious forest park that houses an impressive collection of international tree species. Forestry management is primarily focused on preserving the recreational function and nature conservation.

The renaturalization project was only effectively completed at this location in 2025. Before that, it was "nice," but nothing more. Today, at least here, one can get an impression of what the Nidda might originally have looked like. A little further downstream towards Höchst, there is also a more natural stretch – otherwise, unfortunately, it's still a very straightened river, yet still one of the most beautiful sections in Frankfurt.

The Main-Taunus Arboretum is a park-like woodland landscape of approximately 76 hectares located between Eschborn, Schwalbach, and Sulzbach. It was established in the early 1980s as compensatory reforestation for the expansion of Frankfurt Airport on the site of a former airfield. Today, over 600 species of trees and shrubs from the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere grow here. Instead of individual display trees, complete forest communities have been planted, allowing visitors to experience a small "botanical world tour" through forests from Europe, North America, and Asia along its walking paths. The freely accessible arboretum combines nature experiences, environmental education, and recreation and is considered one of the most important tree collection areas in the region – a tranquil, green contrast to the nearby metropolis of Frankfurt.

I find his houses original, but I prefer his paintings.
