Lakeside Trail at Hallwilersee

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The whole lake circuit is great. Time flies by because there is always something to see and the whole route is so varied. We were particularly impressed by the section where the forest really reaches the lake shore. There is a great atmosphere there and it is nice and cool. The trees stand with their roots in the water. Some have already tipped into the lake and found new support there with their branches and formed new roots.

In September 2026, we tackled another section of it again. We started from Birrwil down by the lake, walked to Delphin and back to Birrwil by ship. It was wonderful and the ferry crossing only cost CHF 2.50 per person with a half-fare card. But then we had to pay our car's ransom, we had no choice and had to pay the ransom!!! My darling left a fitting comment.
Dreamlike beautiful area, beautiful hiking trails; a sinfully expensive parking garage at the harbor in Birrwil (5 hours CHF 35.00)

Very beautiful riverside path. Thanks to the ban on bicycles, there are no cyclists either.

It is a beautiful, but often strenuous, area. The route from the highlight "Baldeggersee" up to Römerswil is also recommended. A route for the more athletic or those like me, who support suboptimal athleticism with electric energy :-)

September 17, 2025, Heidegg Castle

Heidegg Castle and its surroundings are highly recommended. Heidegg Castle is a museum and is open from April to the end of October, Tuesday to Friday from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. On weekends, it is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission for adults is CHF 13. I haven't been to the museum myself, but since admission is free with the Raiffeisen card, I'll definitely visit sometime. The castle has a rose garden. It is open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. starting in May. Admission is CHF 2 for adults and CHF 0.50 for children (cash or Twint). The entrance fee goes towards the maintenance of the garden. It's a truly beautiful place with seating and a view of Lake Baldegg. I saw lizards, bumblebees, and butterflies there, and of course, admired the various flowers. There is an outdoor playground in the chestnut avenue near the castle. This serves as a popular meeting place year-round. The snack bar is open on Sundays and public holidays from April to the beginning of October, weather permitting, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For information about whether the snack bar is actually open and all other information, please visit the website www.heidegg.ch.
