The Breite Wasser is a small lake in the Teufelsmoor, which was preserved as an old river after the Hamme was regulated. The water in the Breite Wasser flows so slowly that it has increasingly silted up. As part of the GR project "Hammeniederung", more than 7,000 tons of mud were dredged out of the water and its tributaries in autumn 2008 and transported to sand pits near Wallhöfen. The nature reserve of the same name, "Breites Wasser", covers an area of 203 hectares around the water between the towns of Worpswede and Teufelsmoor. It has been designated a nature reserve since 1964 and overlaps with the EU bird sanctuary "Hammeniederung". Source: https://www.teufelsmoor.eu/region/breites-wasser/

Beautiful child-friendly bathing area with a raised sandy beach, which is monitored by the DLRG on weekends and during school holidays. The beach was created through voluntary work by members of the Hammestrandinitiative e.V. to give Worpswede families and visitors access to the Hamme at Worpswede's former bathing bay.
