Sturdy shoes are recommended. We saw an adder lying on the forest path, enjoying the beautiful weather. We almost stepped on it.

The Breite Wasser is a small lake in the Teufelsmoor, which was preserved as an old river after the Hamme was regulated. The water in the Breite Wasser flows so slowly that it has increasingly silted up. As part of the GR project "Hammeniederung", more than 7,000 tons of mud were dredged out of the water and its tributaries in autumn 2008 and transported to sand pits near Wallhöfen. The nature reserve of the same name, "Breites Wasser", covers an area of 203 hectares around the water between the towns of Worpswede and Teufelsmoor. It has been designated a nature reserve since 1964 and overlaps with the EU bird sanctuary "Hammeniederung". Source: https://www.teufelsmoor.eu/region/breites-wasser/
