Wartin Castle

Highlight • Castle

Wartin Castle dates from the 18th century. It is a two-storey mansion with a court of honor, originally built in Baroque style. In the 19th century it was supplemented by neo-Gothic corner turrets, as well as the Gothic-style portal.
The manor in Wartin originally belonged to the noble family of Blankenburg. In 1717 Joachim Bernd von der Osten became owner of the estate.
After reunification, the Collegium Wartinum Foundation took over the entire ensemble. Its aim is to make Castle Wartin usable for the purposes of the Association European Academy and to develop it into a center for art, culture and science. The castle is inhabited by two professors who preside over the European Academy as chairman / director.
An entrance to the castle park and garden I could not find.

In the barn, where 600 beets were grown in the GDR, today there are two dance studios and a cinema hall. In the former piggery - a German-Polish meeting center. In the old grain warehouse - a kitchen with a dining room, in the former distillery - a cafe. Only the palace has still not undergone a general renovation, although it bears a proud name: the International Center for Artistic Research.
The history of Broellin dates back to the 12th century, when it was ruled by the knight Bralin. The historic manor farm has five hectares, with eight buildings with a total usable area of 12,500 square meters. When the GDR was collapsing, agricultural production according to the old model ceased to be profitable. Subsequent LPG facilities were excluded from it and a new user was frantically searched for. The location helped: only 30 km from the Polish border, 40 from Szczecin, and 130 from Berlin. Since 1992, it has been under the care of the Association: "schloss broellin e.V", which was founded by independent theater producers and directors, scenographers, theatrologists, musicians and sociologists, involved in the search for new paths in art. They organize artistic workshops, vernissages, concerts and performances in all fields. Their common goal is to search for links between art, knowledge and social life. From the beginning, they have used their location in the Polish-German border region for artistic exchange between the two countries. For 15 years, they have been closely cooperating with the KANA and PLECIUGA theaters in Szczecin. Every year, they actively participate in the KONTRAPUNKT Festival of Small Theatrical Forms.

The Feldsteinkirche dates from the 14th century. The ruins are very picturesque in the castle grounds of the Damerow manor.

The castle park is surrounded by a high wall and is off-limits. It's a bit disappointing that you can only see the castle from one side.

First mentioned as a castle at the end of the 12th century, Penkun Castle is today one of the last remaining castles of the Pomeranian Dukes. The castle association runs a border and customs museum in the former administrator's house, and there is a small exhibition on the judicial system in Pomerania in the castle cellar.

Wartin Castle was built in 1695 under Captain Christoph von der Osten as the manor house of the Wartin manor. It was rebuilt and renovated after 1991 by the "European Academy" association. Today it is used by this association and is a meeting place for artists and scientists from all over the world. Opposite the castle there is a riding stable. Wartin Palace was built in 1695 under Captain Christoph von der Osten as a manor house for the Wartin manor. The baroque estate complex consists of a castle and surrounding manor buildings, including: former palace warehouse and schnapps distillery, currently housing a cultural barn. There was also a forge, stables and numerous barns. Currently, most of the buildings have been renovated and are used as accommodation facilities and for organizing events such as weddings, family celebrations and corporate events. An associated park and garden complete the complex and are surrounded by a wall of natural stone and brick up to five meters high. This makes the castle park one of the few preserved buildings in northern Brandenburg with a completely brick wall. In terms of cultural history, it is the equivalent of the leading landscape parks of Lenné. An old arched door leads from the park to a beautiful church from the 13th century. The palace is accessible from the outside.

Picturesquely situated on the castle hill, the residence in Penkun dominates the city. In addition to the castle dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, the entire complex of buildings includes relics of a medieval stronghold, a gatehouse from 1486, a gate from 1614, the manager's house from the 18th century and a farm building built in the 19th century.

A perfectly built bike path is a measure of economic development, then there might even be a coffee in Penkun. The mayor should think about that!
