Entry to the Vintgar Gorge costs €10 (2024) and goes 1.6km along the water (helmets are compulsory, you get them at the entrance and return them to the hut after 1.6km). The route is easy: on footbridges and paved paths you go to the hut at the Sum waterfall, where there are snacks and a toilet. After the hut you can choose between 2 tours for the way back: through the forests (+ 2.7km/90min) or through the Alps (+4.1km/120min). I chose the route through the forests and found it relatively unspectacular. Lots of uphill, sometimes you walk on the slope above the gorge, so you can hear the river even if you can't see it. I would recommend hiking boots to everyone (no sandals, flip-flops or shoes without tread).
