Today I took a beautiful hike to the top of Vlhošť. Very nice path, sometimes quite steep. But the views are gorgeous. Especially today when there are no leaves yet and you can see through the trees into the countryside 😀👍🚶➡️

Ronov is a castle ruin northeast of Blíževedel in the Česká Lípa district of the Liberec Region. It is located on the top of Ronov Hill, which is part of the Ralská pahorkatina. The remains of the castle are protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The oldest direct reports about the castle date back to the fifteenth century. In 1438 it was owned by Vilém of Ilburk, who significantly rebuilt the castle. After 1538, the Stvolínec fortress became the main seat of the nobility, and Ronov gradually turned into a ruin.

The Vlhošť Nature Reserve in the Ralská pahorkatina in the Český Lipský region includes the Vlhošť hills (614 m), Malý Vlhošť (439 m) and the surrounding forested area full of Tertiary sandstone rocks. The protected wood pigeon and the short-eared owl nest in the local beech forests. In the last few years, the peregrine falcon has also nested in the rock towers.

Very difficult. Alpine hiking boots are recommended here. The terrain is very rocky and steep in places.

The border path to the Hochwald Tower is an old smugglers' path and, at times, a very arduous route up to the summit of the Hochwald. The steepest section, with gradients of up to 20%, can be bypassed.

Loupežnický vrch (Raubschlossberg, 539 m) is a relatively flat, two-peaked basalt mountain located about 2 km east of Petrovice. The higher northern peak is a basalt cliff partially excavated by a quarry, while the southern peak (531 m) is a rather inconspicuous hill.

For breathtaking panoramic views, consider visiting Klíč Summit (Kleis), which is often considered to have some of the most beautiful vistas in the Lusatian Mountains. From its bare summit, you can see Studenec, Jedlová, and even parts of Bohemian-Saxon Switzerland on a clear day. Another excellent option is Ralsko, where the summit provides a circular view, and Lausche Summit and Observation Tower also offers extensive views from the highest mountain in the Zittau Mountains.
Yes, the region is rich in historical sites. Bezděz is home to the magnificent Gothic Bezděz Castle, built between 1260 and 1280, offering panoramic views and a significant historical experience. You can find more information about the castle on Wikipedia. Another notable peak is Ralsko, where the summit features the ruins of the Gothic Ralsko Castle, founded in the 14th century. Additionally, Ronov Castle Ruins on Ronberg also offers a glimpse into the area's past.
Several peaks are protected natural sites. Vlhošť, the highest mountain in the Polomené hory, is a natural reserve known for rare plants, insects, and birds, including the peregrine falcon. Klíč is entirely a nature reserve, featuring a distinctive phonolite cone and a huge rock wall where massive ice formations can be seen in winter. Both Bezděz and Malý Bezděz are part of a national nature reserve, preserving their unique geological and ecological characteristics. Slavíček Basalt Summit is also notable for its basalt structures amidst sandstone formations.
The region offers a variety of outdoor activities. You can explore numerous hiking trails, including those around Vlhošťský důl. For cycling enthusiasts, there are many MTB trails and gravel biking routes. If you enjoy water features, consider waterfall hikes. Rock climbing is also permitted on the western slope of Vlhošť during summer months.
While many peaks involve challenging ascents, some areas offer more accessible options. The ascent to Lausche Summit and Observation Tower from the Czech side is generally considered more pleasant than the steeper German side, making it a potentially better option for families. The area around Malý Vlhošť, adjacent to Vlhošť, features flowering beech forests and rich fauna, which can be enjoyable for families, though direct public access to its summit is limited.
The best time to visit depends on your preferred activities. Spring and autumn offer pleasant temperatures for hiking and enjoying the natural beauty, with vibrant foliage in autumn. Summer is ideal for rock climbing on Vlhošť and general outdoor exploration. In winter, the western side of Klíč is known for massive ice formations, offering a unique visual experience, though trails may be more challenging due to snow and ice.
The terrain varies significantly. Peaks like Ralsko and Klíč involve steep climbs, with Ralsko featuring a stone sea and volcanic rock formations, and Klíč having a craggy, steep path along its walls. Vlhošť is a neovolcanic mountain surrounded by forests. Some highlights, such as Lausche Summit and Observation Tower, are rated as 'challenging' for their ascent, while others like Johannisstein summit and rock formations are more intermediate.
Visitors frequently praise the stunning panoramic views, especially from peaks like Klíč Summit (Kleis) and Lausche Summit and Observation Tower. The historical significance of sites like Bezděz Castle and Ralsko Castle ruins is also a major draw. Many appreciate the diverse natural landscapes, from volcanic formations to protected forests, and the opportunity for challenging hikes that reward with incredible scenery.
While not entirely hidden, the adjacent Malý Bezděz offers beautiful views of the prominent Bezděz Castle itself, providing a different perspective. Although its summit is generally inaccessible to the public, a narrow path allows for some appreciation of the area. The Johannisstein summit and rock formations is another spot that offers good views and benches for resting, often described as a worthwhile visit.
While specific cafes directly on every trail are not guaranteed, many villages and towns surrounding the mountain peaks offer amenities. For example, if you descend from Lausche to Horní Světlá, you'll find restaurants where you can enjoy a beer and garlic soup. It's advisable to check local listings for cafes and accommodation in towns like Svor (near Klíč), Doksy (near Bezděz), or Mimoň (near Ralsko) before your visit.
The komoot community highly rates several peaks. Lausche Summit and Observation Tower is a very popular choice, offering panoramic views. Johannisstein summit and rock formations is also well-loved for its views and resting spots. Another favorite is Klíč Summit (Kleis), known for its distinctive cone and wide-ranging vistas.
