A chapel dedicated to St. Nicholas was built for the raftsmen on the island at the Traunfall waterfall. A chapel was first mentioned in 1439 and later rebuilt. Today, it is one of the last remaining original structures of the salt raftsmen. Inscription: "The chapel at the falls was first recorded in 1439. In 1598, this gem was washed away by floodwaters and only rebuilt 100 years later in its Baroque form, which has been preserved to this day. The salt boatmen dedicated this small house of worship to their patron saint for safe passage through the "Wild Falls." For centuries, the parish priest of Roitham celebrated a weekly mass in this chapel. This mass was endowed by the type-makers of Gmunden. The chapel is now one of the last remaining buildings at the Traunfall from the time of salt shipping and is a listed historical monument. It is owned by Energie AG Oberösterreich." With a drop of twelve meters and a width of 200 meters, the waterfall is definitely worth a visit. The water falls into a gorge with large, mossy rocks. Great photo opportunity.
