October 29, 2024, Ewloe Castle

Ewloe Castle is nestled in a beautiful wooded area and is a small yet intriguing medieval fortress. It was built in the 13th century by Llywelyn ap Gruffudd and refelcts the Welsh resistance against English conquest.

You can rest on the bench provided almost on the edge of the escarpment and gaze out at the fantastic, panoramic views across the Dee to North Wales and up towards the mouth of the river. Burton Point is the site of an old hill fort dating back to the Iron Age - probably around the year 200 BC. Fascinating.
