At the mountain rescue hut, it is usually quiet and you can take a break on the stone bench. Only on Epiphany is it very busy here, people drink "Stärke" (strength) for the new year and toast with a shot of schnapps. On Ascension Day, the mountain service takes place here every year.

The spring's enclosure on the Kösseine ring road was named after the long-time Kösseine district manager Karl Kraus. He made a name for himself by building various facilities in the Kösseine area.

Refreshing cold water flows from the fountain. Next to it is a seating area where you can relax. There was a historic border here.

Today, the Pfalzbrunnen is part of the Fichtelberg and Waldsassen forestry companies' association, and the borders of the Wunsiedel and Tirschenreuth districts and the administrative districts of Upper Franconia and Upper Palatinate meet here. The Pfalzbrunnen existed before its construction. In a map from 1826, the Topographic Atlas of the Kingdom of Bavaria, sheet no. 22, the Pfalzbrunnen is marked on the map, clearly recognizable as one of the sources of the Kösseine river. Major Julius von Plänckner also describes our Pfalzbrunnen in his book "PINIFERUS - Pocket book for travelers to the Fichtel Mountains", published in 1839: "The Kössein... springs from the flames of the Kösseine and the Pfalzbrunnen and Zuckbrunnen located there...". Older residents in Schurbach told me that the farmers used to have the right to graze their cattle in the forest near the Pfalzbrunnen.
