At the summit, you are greeted with sweeping, uninterrupted views of the entire reservoir and the sprawling green valleys below. On a clear day, the line of sight extends to the eastern flank of Dajti and, faintly, the foothills approaching Krujë. Mount Gamti itself rises to roughly 1,268 m; the trail tops out at the Balcony of Bovilla viewpoint at about 620 m, some 160 m above the trailhead.

From the steel balcony atop Mount Gamti, you have a spectacular view over the turquoise Bovilla Lake, the steep karst walls, and the deep canyon below. The platform literally hangs over the abyss, making the panorama extra impressive. The metal staircase forms the last short climb; at the top, an open, airy spot awaits with a clear view of the entire reservoir. Access is free, and the balcony is the iconic endpoint of the short hike from the Bovilla restaurant.

The last few meters to the Balcony of Bovilla viewpoint are via a set of metal stairs anchored directly into the rock face. It is a short but steep passage, technically simple but physically demanding due to the gradient. If you have a fear of heights, you can enjoy a similar panorama from the bottom, but those who take the stairs stand on a steel viewing deck that hangs spectacularly over the canyon.

Since the Mangalem quarter lies directly below the castle hill, it is poorly visible from there. You have a good view from the square at the King Mosque Xhamia Mbret.

For breathtaking vistas, consider the Bovilla Reservoir – Viewpoint overlooking Lake Bovilla loop from Tërkuzë. This trail offers stunning views of Lake Bovilla, a popular spot near Tirana. Another option is the View of Gjipe Beach – View of Gjipe Beach loop from Vunoi, which provides coastal panoramas.
Absolutely. Albania is home to several beautiful waterfalls accessible via easy trails. The Bogova Waterfall – Bogova Waterfall loop from Bogovë is a great option to experience a natural cascade. You can also visit the famous Grunas Waterfall in Theth National Park or the Blue Eye (Syri i Kaltër) Waterfall, both of which are often part of accessible routes.
Albania's diverse terrain makes it suitable for hiking across multiple seasons. Spring and autumn generally offer pleasant temperatures and vibrant landscapes, ideal for easy walks. Summer is also popular, especially for coastal trails or higher-altitude paths where temperatures are milder. The country's trails are often uncrowded, providing a peaceful experience year-round.
Yes, many easy trails are suitable for families. Routes around natural attractions like the Blue Eye spring or along lake shores are often gentle and engaging for all ages. The relatively short distances and minimal elevation gain on easy trails make them perfect for a family outing.
Easy hikes in Albania often lead to or pass by significant natural and historical landmarks. You can explore areas around Lake Koman, discover the Thethi Church, or visit historical sites like Rozafa Castle, which offers an easy loop trail. The Berat Castle is another notable attraction that can be explored with accessible paths.
Albania offers a unique blend of both. You can find easy coastal paths with stunning views of the Ionian Sea, particularly in areas like Llogara National Park. Simultaneously, there are numerous easy trails in the foothills of the Albanian Alps and other mountain regions, providing a taste of the rugged interior without extreme difficulty. For example, the View of Lake Ohrid – View of Lin loop from Lin, Paleochristian Church offers beautiful lakeside scenery.
The komoot community highly rates hiking in Albania, with an average score of 4.3 stars from over 9,800 reviews. The diverse landscapes, from dramatic peaks to serene lakes, are also frequently highlighted.
While specific regulations can vary by national park or protected area, many natural trails in Albania are generally dog-friendly, especially for well-behaved dogs on a leash. It's always advisable to check local signage or park rules for any restrictions before heading out. Ensure your dog is comfortable with the terrain and bring enough water for both of you.
For an easy day hike, essential items include comfortable walking shoes, appropriate clothing layers for changing weather, sun protection (hat, sunscreen), a sufficient water supply, and some snacks. A small first-aid kit, a charged phone, and a map or GPS device (like the komoot app) are also recommended for safety and navigation.
Yes, one of Albania's appeals is its uncrowded trails compared to more established European destinations. Even popular easy routes often offer a sense of solitude. To find even quieter options, consider exploring trails slightly off the main tourist paths or hiking during the shoulder seasons (spring and autumn) when visitor numbers are lower.
