The path is partly steep and wide, partly leads through ancient tree stands

Above the Rünenberger Giessen lies this cozy spot with a small water basin (a Gumpen), where you can cool your feet wonderfully in the summer. Even in earlier times, people from the surrounding area came here to bathe. Above the Gumpen there is also a barbecue area, below you can descend to the Giessen.

Described above is the upper waterfall, the "Rünenberger Gießen", where the water falls over a curved rock face 18 m into the depths, forming a stately tufa pyramid below, with the jet atomizing roaring and foaming depending on the water level. In winter, fascinating icicle formations are created at sub-zero temperatures. Above the waterfall is the "Löligumpi", where you could swim in the past. A little further down follows the Kleine Giessen - also with a beautiful tuff cone.

Beautiful sculpture. There are more further up, for example a statue of Death and a woman.

I took a small detour through the forest so I wouldn't have to walk in the blazing sun. Wonderful and truly fascinating paths, though some are quite steep. Still, the view from the top of the tower is worth it; outstanding! (The coin box for entry is in the archway at the entrance—I couldn't resist it and, of course, gave a large coin!) On the way back, I also recommend taking path 4 instead of the busy road—along the tank barriers, including a seating area about halfway along the path.

Visible from afar, the walled church complex of St. Nicholas towers over Oltingen. St. Nicholas was first documented in 1296, and the current building dates back to the late Gothic period. During renovations in 1956, magnificent frescoes were discovered and beautifully restored. They depict, in particular, stories from the life of the church's patron saint, St. Nicholas of Myra, and the Virgin Mary. The building complex includes the rectory, also Gothic, with an adjoining, smaller ossuary dating from 1517. Adjacent to the north is the rectory barn, built in 1710.
