Since its official opening in early October 2025, visitors have been able to climb the tower's 150 steps and enjoy the impressive panoramic view over Freyung, the Bavarian Forest, and as far as Bohemia. Approximately 44 tons of steel and approximately 80 square meters of grating were used. As early as 1884, the Bavarian Forest Association built a wooden observation tower on the Geyersberg. This now completed dual project is part of the EU INTERREG Bavaria-Czech Republic program and was implemented as part of the "ArchitekTour grenzenlos" tourism initiative. Together with the project underway in Vimperk – the renovation of the former brewery terraces – the new tower on the Geyersberg strengthens the connection between the twin towns of Freyung and Vimperk and stands as a visible symbol of friendship and shared development. Opening and Use: The observation tower is freely accessible year-round – from dawn to dusk. Use is free of charge, but at your own risk. Children under the age of twelve may only enter the tower if accompanied by a supervised adult. In the event of severe weather, thunderstorms, storms, or slippery conditions, the tower must be left immediately. For safety reasons, the maximum number of visitors is limited to 100 people.
