I confirm the path seems closed. Thankfully, there is a small path on the side. A bit dangerous but possible to cross.

I passed through on my gravel bike; there's a passage, but it's very narrow. If there's a couple of you and you don't have an e-bike, the passage is doable with limited risk.

There's a landslide on the trail, and you'll have to take a 50-meter detour onto a path that's narrow and steep both up and down! With a little caution, you can do it anyway!

Definitely the most beautiful part of the Via Verde dei Trabocchi, fantastic for gravel!

From the highest point of the Punta Aderci promontory, you have a beautiful view of the trabocco and the small pebble beach.

Unfortunately, a piece of road is missing, washed away by a landslide

It's imperative to stay on the road; bikes you can't carry are out of bounds. The barriers were set to the side, so there were no clear signs. Then I returned to the SS16.

Molise offers a diverse gravel biking landscape, from rugged mountains in the Apennines to rolling hills, deep forests, and a scenic Adriatic coastline. You'll encounter ancient "Tratturi" paths, which are historic routes used for livestock, as well as dirt roads, white roads, and secondary asphalted sections. The terrain varies from challenging climbs in the interior to more gentle, rolling paths closer to the coast.
While many routes in Molise feature challenging climbs, there are options for those seeking a more moderate experience. For example, the Porta Antonetta – Piana delle Cinque Miglia loop from Rivisondoli-Pescocostanzo is rated as moderate and offers a good balance of distance and elevation. It's always recommended to check the route's elevation profile before heading out.
Molise's trails often pass through stunning natural and historical sites. You might encounter the high peaks of the Matese Massif, extensive beech and oak forests, or the picturesque Adriatic coastline. Specific highlights include the Monte Miletto Summit, the Mouth of the Trigno River, and traditional "trabocchi" fishing structures along the coast. The region also features beautiful lakes like Lake Castel San Vincenzo and various waterfalls.
Yes, Molise is home to routes that cater to longer rides. The Lake San Vincenzo – Lake Castel San Vincenzo loop from Alfedena-Scontrone is a challenging 54 km route that explores the mountainous interior, offering significant elevation gain and a full day's adventure. Events like the Molise Trail also utilize the region's extensive network for bikepacking adventures ranging from 200 to 400 km.
The best time for gravel biking in Molise is typically during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October). During these seasons, the weather is generally mild and pleasant, with less extreme heat than summer and before the winter snows in the mountains. This allows for comfortable exploration of both the coastal and mountainous regions.
Many of Molise's gravel bike trails are designed as loops, allowing you to start and end at the same point. For instance, the Punta Adler – Punta Aderci Nature Trail loop from Vasto offers a coastal circular route, while the San Marco la Catola – San Marco la Catola loop from San Marco la Catola provides a challenging inland loop.

Reviewers often praise the region's untouched landscapes, the authentic experience away from mass tourism, and the unique opportunity to cycle along ancient "Tratturi" paths. The diverse terrain, from rugged mountains to scenic coastlines, also receives frequent commendation.
Yes, Molise is rich in history. While not explicitly detailed in the provided routes, the region is known for its ancient Roman cities and historic villages. The ancient "Tratturi" paths themselves are UNESCO cultural heritage sites, offering a journey through history as you ride. Exploring the interior will often bring you close to such historical elements.
Absolutely. Molise has a beautiful, well-preserved Adriatic coastline. The Castello Caldoresco – Path Closed Due to Landslide loop from Vasto is an example of a route that follows the coast, offering stunning sea views and passing by popular seaside resorts and natural coastal features.
Molise's diverse terrain means you should be prepared for varying conditions. Mountainous areas can involve significant climbs and descents, while some ancient Tratturi paths might be rougher. Always check the difficulty grade and elevation profile of your chosen route. The region's 'best-kept secret' status means some areas might be less developed, so self-sufficiency is key.
