During the Thirty Years' War, the castle was besieged several times. Finally, the famous Prince-Bishop Christoph Bernhard von Galen (also known as "Bomben-Bernd") had the castle blown up and demolished in 1655 so that it could no longer serve as a stronghold for enemy troops. 💥🧱
