The Mariengrotte in Brachbach (often mentioned in connection with the neighboring town of Mudersbach) is located directly above the "Alte Freundschaft" adit entrance, which historically belonged to the "Consolidierte Freundschaft" mine. + The mining connection: The "Consolidierte Freundschaft" mine extracted ores such as iron, copper, and cobalt in the Siegerland region. Directly below the grotto is the naturally hewn adit entrance of the "Alte Freundschaft" adit, as well as a well system fed by the local mine water. + The grotto: Above the adit, stairs lead to a rest area where the lovingly maintained Mariengrotte is located. The historic grotto was originally built in the 1920s, using stones from nearby mines, among other materials. A striking, large statue of Mary by the Brachbach sculptor Josef Christ has adorned the site since 1965. + Hiking: The site is a popular stop on the tourist mining hiking trail Brachbach (Wällertour) and invites hikers to rest and reflect.
