Tips from the Community

PeterH65 (a.k.a. "Waldorf")
May 27, 2026, Luisenstollen (Grube Fossey)

The Luisenstollen is a historic zinc ore adit in the Göhl valley (municipality of Lontzen). It was part of the important Fossey mine and served as the main haulage way from 1878 to 1923. It was named after Princess Luise of Prussia. For a long time, the entrance to the adit was left to decay. In 2008, the adit entrance in Lindengraben on Walhorn municipal territory was elaborately restored. The project was financed by grants from the German-speaking Community, the municipality of Lontzen, Interreg, and the Walhorn Transport and Beautification Association.

The hamlet of Berlotte lies about two kilometers from the main town of Eynatten, on the edge of an old Roman road, and is predominantly agricultural. To save residents the Sunday commute to the Eynatten parish, the then mayor of Eynatten, Johann Wildt, donated a designated sum of 50 thalers after his death in 1695 for the construction of the first chapel in Berlotte. With the help of further donations, the construction of the chapel in honor of the Holy Family was finally completed in 1711 under Pastor Cornelius Matthei.
