"De Hoop", built in 1736 to replace an even older post mill. Mill "De Hoop", built on the edge of this beautiful fortified town, turned out to be on an artificial elevation, a kind of mound. It is a round, stone, white-painted flour mill, type mill. And what a statement! The aim is to raise the blades even further to catch as much wind as possible. The scaffolding on which this mill stands is exceptionally high!

In the narrow Hoogstraat in the historic center of the city of Tholen we find the former town hall. A tall, narrow building, enclosed between the buildings in the street. You have to bend over backwards to get a good look at the building. This town hall was built around 1475, in late Gothic style. It replaced a town hall ("aldermen's house") that stood on this site and which was destroyed during the great city fire in 1452. The facade of the town hall is covered with natural stone. On the facade are battlements on which a number of lions hold gold-colored banners on which coats of arms are depicted. The facade is covered by a hexagonal turret with a carillon. The oldest clock there is from the 15th century. The carillon was supplemented with bells until the 20th century. The grand double platform in front of the town hall is an addition from around 1760, in the so-called rococo style. The master builder of the 15th century town hall is not known. Some believe that it is the work of the famous Flemish master builder Andries Keldermans (1400-1488). Very beautiful building!

This port has existed for over 75 years, although located in the middle of an industrial area, it has a pleasant atmosphere.
