This is great fun, I've done both descents now, both north and south but neither climb, and I'm very happy about that. Would want an unloaded bike to clean the whole trail.

Rode this uphill from the resevoir in dry conditions. Can't say i share some other commentors confidence, I was on 700x40 tyres and found it very tough going with alot of walking. However, once up, it's a beautifully empty area, didn't see a soul. Crossed over the moor (bog) to the quarry using the footpath rather than the byway/bridlepath as they are in terrible condition thanks to motor traffic.

The Diving Board on Fan y Big is one of the most photographed locations in the Brecon Beacons. The views over towards Cribyn and Pen Y Fan are super good, as are the views down towards the Gap. It is great to come up here on a winter weekday, when it is a bit quieter too. It is also a very popular spot for your sunrise and sunset shots. It is easier than it looks to get here, and it doesn't matter which way you come up; the effort is absolutely well worth it.

The walk to the top of Fan y Bîg. takes in some of the most incredible ridge lines in the Brecon Beacons. It’s a steep start, but then you have around 6km of easy ridge line walking, with simply sensational views all the way. Reaching the top is the icing on the cake, and if you luck out with good conditions, with breathtaking views it’s really a very hard spot to leave. As well as the views, you'll also have the chance to step out onto the diving board, one of the most photogenic spots in the area.

I have been coming up here now for about forty years. There are a variety of routes to here, but each one brings you to this one spot. These lumps of stone and the views are drop-dead gorgeous. Top it off with a visit to the pub afterwards, and it's a good day out. It's also a good run—before you get to the pub, of course!

Great views and riding I've only done it on gravel bikes ascending from the south. It's doable fully loaded too. The Brecon descent is proper big gravel and under biking fun. Or do it flat out on an MTB too.
