This is in dedication of Aneurin Bevan here is a plaque dedicated in his memory here is the memorial on this stone. Which only was put in place in the late memory of Sir, Aneurin Bevan, who was the actual true sole founder the man who had created the incredible service of our whole nation of the United Kingdom the live-saver service of the NHS - National Health Service. This is a historical site and lots of tourists whom have visited have said solely because they have an interest in the history and the background of the whole nature to the creation of the NHS.

Nant Milgatw Waterfall located near Trefil Tredegar Gwent. It’s Small waterfall on the back of the stream Nant Milgatw. Normally not this much water coming over the top like I’d experienced today. Hands down this has to be the stinkiest waterfall I’ve ever seen, water was filthy like brown sludge not what I expected to see. There is many of great walking routes that all can use the same start point as here or along the Trefil Rd, as I’ve gone way beyond this point previously and it’s definitely worth the explore there are so many other routes that can lead you up onto the surrounding mountainsides above. Including the incredible Chartists Cave. The Appropriate footwear is definitely required here as terrain can vary depending on the weather conditions route and height.

Chartist Cave or sometimes Chartist's or Chartists' Cave is a culturally significant cave on Mynydd Llangynidr in southern Powys, Wales. The entrance is a broad arch formed of Twrch Sandstone Millstone Grit which overlies the Carboniferous Limestone immediately beneath.

Yes, Tredegar has several options suitable for families. A great choice is the Aneurin Bevan Memorial – The Duke's Table loop from Waundeg, a relatively short and flat walk. For a day out, consider visiting Parc Bryn Bach, a highly-regarded local nature reserve with accessible nature trails, a lake, and a playground.
Many trails around Tredegar are suitable for walking with dogs, but they should be kept on a lead, especially when crossing farmland with livestock. Open moorland routes like those in the Brecon Beacons offer plenty of space. For a more contained walk, Tredegar House Lake is a popular spot for local dog walkers.
The majority of popular routes in the area are circular. For a moderate loop with good views, consider the The Duke's Table – The Flinty Stone loop from Waundeg. It offers a satisfying hike of about 9 km through the rolling hills characteristic of the region.
Absolutely. The region's history is a key feature of many walks. The Cairn on Garn Fawr – Chartist Cave loop from Waundeg takes you past a site of major historical significance for the Chartist movement. Many trails pass by remnants of the area's industrial past, offering a glimpse into the heritage of the Welsh Valleys.
The hike to Cefn yr Ystrad involves a steady ascent over open moorland and grassy paths. While not overly steep, it requires a moderate level of fitness. The reward for your effort is expansive views across the surrounding hills and valleys from the trig point. Ensure you have sturdy footwear as the ground can be uneven.
The Chartist Cave – Collapsed Cave Entrance loop from Tafarnaubach is rated as a moderate hike. It's a fairly long route at nearly 16 km, crossing exposed and sometimes boggy moorland. The main challenges are the distance and navigating the open terrain rather than steep climbs.
Yes, the area around Trefil Quarries, known for its unique and dramatic limestone landscape, offers interesting walking opportunities. While there isn't a specific named route in our guide that focuses solely on the quarry, many local paths explore this fascinating area, which has also been used as a filming location.
Parc Bryn Bach is an excellent choice. It's a large local nature reserve with well-maintained paths around a 36-acre lake, through woodlands, and across grasslands. It's a popular spot for a gentle stroll and also has a cafe. Another option is Sirhowy Hill Woodlands for a quieter woodland walk.
The trails around Tredegar are highly rated by the komoot community. Hikers often praise the combination of natural beauty and local history. The panoramic views from the hilltops, the sense of solitude on the open moorland, and the well-preserved paths through areas like Parc Bryn Bach are frequently mentioned highlights.

While the landscape features many streams and reservoirs, prominent waterfall walks are not a primary feature of the immediate Tredegar area. For more dramatic waterfalls, you may need to explore the wider Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, which is a short drive away and famous for its 'Waterfall Country'.
Hiking is possible year-round, but late spring, summer, and early autumn offer the best conditions with warmer weather and longer daylight hours. The hills can be particularly beautiful when the heather is in bloom in late summer. Always check the weather forecast before you go, as conditions on the exposed moorland can change quickly.
