The Catholic Church of Astheim is probably one of the main historical monuments of Astheim and holds a great wealth of development and change within it. Although not documented, the house of worship has existed since the 13th century. The current church is first mentioned in 1651, when it was destroyed by floodwaters, as has often happened in its history. Little historical information is handed down until September 2, 1703, when Auxiliary Bishop Edmund Geduld von Jungenfeld consecrated the church. But to this day, the church consecration day (Kerb) is celebrated in Astheim with a folk festival on the first Sunday in September. Saint Peter in Chains was chosen as the patron saint for the consecration and name. The Apostle Peter was imprisoned for his faith and was miraculously freed (Acts 12:1-10). This is depicted in a painting on the ceiling of the nave. With its baroque high altar, a gilded monstrance from 1753, and a chalice, as well as a valuable Dreymann organ from the 19th century, the Astheim parish church possesses rare treasures of art historical value. Not to be forgotten are the bells, which the church has housed since at least 1779. The current bells were consecrated in 1953 and put into service. Their ringing has the "Te Deum" or "Salve Regina motif". https://bistummainz.de/pfarrgruppe/astheim-geinsheim/wir/unsere-kirchen/

A beautiful cobblestone path crosses the waterway connecting the Old Rhine and the Rhine. From here, you can also reach Langenau Island on foot. The current is quite impressive. In summer, you can often see kayakers here. Worth seeing even during high water.
