The church was built in the 13th century. Initially, it was a single-nave granite building with a tower on the west side. In the 14th century, a brick chancel was added, and then the main nave was demolished and a new one, also made of brick, was built. In the 15th century, an ambulatory was built around the chancel with a tower on the east side, and two side naves were extended to the sides of the west tower. The church was destroyed by fire twice and then rebuilt. In the 19th century, it was rebuilt in the neo-Gothic style. During World War II, the church was seriously damaged. The reconstruction was completed in 1977. The east tower was not rebuilt.

In this section, the branches of the bushes hit me in the face at first. That won't be the case any more in the near future. A team (see photo) was in the process of cutting them away so that it will take a few years for them to hang in the way again.

Asphalt bicycle path. Fragment of Blue Velo – Odrzańska Trasa Rowerowa. The section from Chwarstnica to Borzym. Even asphalt, no holes. The road runs along the embankment of the former Gryfino-Swobnica railway line, running along a tributary of the Oder - the Tywa River and ribbon lakes, such as Lake Wełtyńskie. On the Tywa River you can find the remains of damming devices, which once powered mills and are now used to supply water to nearby ponds.

Former hospital chapel from 1417. Initially, the chapel served as a shelter for the sick, including lepers. It was built far outside the city walls. In the 15th century, the mysteries of the Passion of Christ, famous throughout Pomerania, took place every year at the chapel. After performing the Stations of the Cross, the cross with Jesus was hung on hooks on the wall of the chapel. The scene of Jesus' crucifixion was played by professional actors. Unfortunately, in 1498 two actors were at odds with each other, competing for the charms of the same woman. One of them played Jesus, the other the legionary Longinus, who pierced Jesus' side with a spear to end his suffering. In fact, it was only supposed to pierce the bag of paint, but this time it really pierced Jesus hanging on the cross. The cross with the dead body fell from the hooks straight onto Mary Magdalene, who was praying under it, the very woman for whom the actors were fighting. She died too. The actor playing John the Evangelist attacked the murderer, meting out instant justice, and the audience lynched him. After these events, riots broke out in the city. By the decision of the bishop's court, the staging of mysteries in Baniu was banned "for all time", and this ban is still in force. The hooks on which the cross was hung are still on the wall of the chapel.
