The castle on the slope of the Hiesberg was first mentioned in 1100 in connection with a Wernher von Zelking. Wernher von Zelking's origins are unclear. In 1802 Franziska Countess Kinsky, a widowed Countess Sinzendorf, married Count Harrach for the second time. Later owners included the Counts of Rohrau and the Galgozy-Galantha family.
