Quernst Chapel

Highlight • Religious Site

There used to be a hilltop church here, of which today only the remains of the surrounding wall and a mound of earth, under which the remains of the old Quernstkirche are believed to be, are visible. There are no documents about the founding of the church, but there is a legend according to which it was said to have arisen from a pagan sanctuary. Services for the surrounding communities were probably held in the church until 1528. This place also served as a market and burial place.

After the surrounding towns founded their own parishes, the old church fell into disrepair. In 2006, after much planning, the new chapel on the Quernst was built. A wonderful place to rest with a sensational view.

Urwaldsteig Kellerwald

Highlight • Trail

This route is very well signposted and leads through very different forest areas (pine, beech, mixed forest). The trails are also very promising, especially in winter.
