Another highlight is the Kaunas Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul. It is the largest building in the Old Town and has been the basilica of the Cardinal of Lithuania since 1921. The church was built in the Gothic architectural style and features a Baroque high altar depicting the crucifixion scene of Jesus. Worth seeing is the sacristy with its cross vault or the 17th-century Neo-Gothic wood-carved chapel.

Great place to run by and close to the pedestrian street Laisvės Alėja. There is an athletic running rink nearby as well, but in winter it can be snowy and icy here.

Extremely nice place, but take some booze with you, because it is quite expensive here.

It is the oldest church in Kaunas (Archdiocese of Kaunas, Lithuania) and the only Gothic church in the country in the shape of a cross. Unfortunately, it was closed during our visit.

The Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul was begun in 1410 in the Gothic style and has been altered several times over the centuries following war and fire damage. Its valuable furnishings reflect the prosperity of the trading town, particularly in the Baroque period. The Sacrament Chapel was added in 1895. In 1921 the church was given the status of a minor basilica. When the Archbishopric of Kaunas was established in 1926, it became its cathedral. Even though it is currently being partially renovated, the interior is extremely impressive. Well worth seeing!
