Tips from the Community

Mattia Pastore
May 6, 2026, Schloss Marienburg

Marienburg Castle was built from 1858 for Queen Marie of Hanover and is one of the most impressive structures in the region. Until 2020, it was privately owned, then a transition to the current Marienburg Castle Foundation was pushed forward. Coupled with this was the urgently needed renovation of the castle after 160 years. The castle is being extensively renovated for 27 million euros, which is why it is currently not accessible to the public. If the construction work allows, individual parts will be opened. The renovation measures are expected to last until 2031. Impressions of the castle and news can be found here: https://www.stiftung-schloss-marienburg.de/

The surface is very good, but the traffic density is too high for my needs. There's no bike path. Due to the hills, it's possible that cars and motorcycles might overtake without enough distance.

The road surface is very good, but the adjacent bike path isn't particularly suitable for road bikes. It's moderately busy. Occasionally, you'll find motorcycles that forget how the road traffic regulations work.

Not exactly a scenic route, but the surface is okay! With the chunky tires, I'd rather go via Bennigsen to Völksen!

Easy to drive downhill, as it is visible and has good asphalt
