It's startling to find a real desert oasis, tucked into a rocky canyon! These palms trees are nourished by the same natural spring they were planted to mark. Despite the presence of an oasis, please take warnings about carrying enough water in this area seriously. Hikers have perished when they didn't carry enough water and were delayed in getting back.

Fortynine Palms Oasis is a three mile round trip trail in Joshua Tree National Park, California with a 300 foot elevation gain in each direction. [1] [2] The trail starts at the Fortynine Palms Parking Area, goes up and over a ridge dotted with barrel cacti and down to a palm oasis in a rocky canyon. The palm trees were planted by miners in the early 1900's to easily locate the natural spring located there. [3] The oasis is often used as a drinking trough for bighorn sheep. [4] In July 2018, a Canadian hiker, Paul Miller, went missing on the trail. His remains were found off the trail in January 2020 - so be careful, it's not to be trifled with in the midsummer heat there❗️

Joshua Tree National Park 🌴 Joshua Tree National Park is a large nature reserve in southern California. It is characterized by rugged rock formations and barren desert landscapes. Named for the region's bizarrely shaped, spiky Joshua trees, the park borders the cactus-studded Colorado Desert and the higher and cooler Mojave Desert. The Keys View lookout overlooks the Coachella Valley. Hiking trails meander through the boulders in the Hidden Valley. ― Google
