It's good that this memorial to Wehrmacht deserters exists. They betrayed the war machine of the German criminal regime. From a moral standpoint, that was even the right thing to do. But the motto goes further: "What better thing can one do than betray the war?" Should the American soldiers who wanted to stop the German war of conquest have also been called upon to desert? I wouldn't go along with that. I also doubt that the murdered soldiers themselves were total pacifists. Only the current memorial seeks to claim them as such. Because that's what many people thought in the recent past. Before the attack on Ukraine.
