The hotel was built as an annex building in 1886 as Hotel am See, it was rebuilt and extended several times in several construction phases and received the name Grandhotel am See in 1896. During the Second World War, the hotel was used by the Americans as a university, with two fires severely damaging the hotel. In 1955, the Tyrolean ski instructor Franz Gramshammer bought the hotel for a symbolic shilling, invested in the building and reopened it. In 1965, the hotel was rebuilt again after a flood and the new building was implemented in the style of the "Gründerzeit" (founding period). In 1984, the hotel was rebuilt again and connected to the main building underground. in the following years, the hotel was rebuilt and extended several more times and offers a magnificent panoramic view over the lake with the Grandspa.
