Sri Lanka's highest point, with a futuristic lotus design, offers stunning views over Colombo—especially impressive at sunset or in the evening when the tower lights up.

The Colombo Lotus Tower is Sri Lanka's tallest building and a modern icon of the capital. With its lotus-shaped design—inspired by the national flower—the 350-meter-high tower soars above Colombo, symbolizing growth and innovation. The tower serves as a telecommunications tower but is also open to visitors. From the observation deck, you have panoramic views of the city, the Indian Ocean, and even the lagoons surrounding Colombo in clear weather. It's a real eye-catcher, especially at sunset and in the evening, when the tower is spectacularly illuminated. Inside, you'll find restaurants, cafés, and exhibition spaces, making it more than just a viewpoint. The Lotus Tower forms a stark contrast to historic Colombo and showcases a different, modern side of Sri Lanka.

The almost 15 m high stone round tower was built in 1952 on Galbokka Point, the remains of an old fort. The construction on Colombo's waterfront became necessary because the Old Clocktower Lighthouse in the city center was increasingly obscured by neighboring buildings. The new beacon has a fire height of 26 m and is identified by a group of three white flashes with a recurrence of ten seconds. To make it easier to recognize as a landmark, the tower facing the lake is painted black and white. Source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colombo_Lighthouse Note: In recent years, through landfill and land reclamation, a completely new district was created west of the Galbokka Lighthouse, called "Port City Colombo". As a result, the lighthouse is no longer on the waterfront and has lost its former importance.

The Old Clocktower Lighthouse is a clock tower and former lighthouse. The 29 m high and square masonry was built in 1860 in the center of Colombo as a clock tower. Five years later, the lantern was added and the structure was also put into operation as a lighthouse in 1865. As the beacon became increasingly obscured by surrounding buildings, the decision was made in 1952 to build a new lighthouse on the city's waterfront.
