The tower guard's job was to send light signals to Vélez-Málaga in the event of danger, in order to warn the residents of the castle there of attacks. The watchtower, first mentioned in documents in 1497, is about 25 metres high, has a conical shape and is 9 metres high. It was the first watchtower to be built in Torrox and still has its stucco façade in the Mudéjar style.
