A very special highlight in Betanzos is the Santiago Church. I was a hospitalera in Betanzos for 14 days and only through mediation did I manage to get a guided tour on the last day. This church is also thanks to the founder Fernan Perez de Andrade. The clock tower was added in the 16th century Grandiose from the outside, even more beautiful from the inside.

Another monument of the founder Fernan Perez de Andrade is this wonderful church, which was completed in the 15th century. Particularly worth seeing is the entrance portal with 4 pairs of columns with artistic capitals. On them are depicted motifs of the Last Judgment, the Virgin Mary with the Three Wise Men, and the Annunciation. On either side of the portal are depictions of the Mother of God and the Archangel Gabriel.

The hostel is located directly in the historic city center, immediately adjacent to the Igrexa de Santa Maria do Azougue of the same name. From here, the wonderful old town can be excellently explored. I was able to visit the city for 14 days during my time as a Hospitalera in this Albergue and had the great fortune to welcome people from all over the world, exchange experiences with them, enjoy a glass of wine in the pretty local establishments, and take care of their overnight needs. Nevertheless, there was enough time to learn to love the city of Betanzos. At the beginning of July, the whole of Betanzos celebrates a medieval festival, a spectacle that sweeps through the entire old town, with numerous market stalls, especially in the area in front of the Santa Maria do Azogue church and thus in front of the Albergue. An amazing experience.

Igrexa San Francisco Betanzos is declared a National Monument. It has only a single nave and an apse with a ribbed vault. It is so rich in reliefs, ornaments, peculiarities. But very exceptional is the sarcophagus of the founder of this church as well as other important buildings, like the adjacent church Santa Maria di Azogue, Fernan Perez de Andrade, called "O Boo". It stands on the representative animals of the Andrade family, a bear and a wild boar as a base. Reliefs of hunting scenes can be seen, and on top the figure of the knight in armor. A total of 7 dogs are depicted near the knight, referring to the number 7 in the legend: the construction of 7 churches, 7 monasteries, 7 hospitals, and 7 bridges. Previously, there was an affiliated Franciscan monastery here.
