The church is still in use today and preserves wall paintings (from 1629) on the chancel arch with the legend of the Order of St. John and the church patron St. John the Baptist. One half of the castle building is used as a school. The once-walled castle grounds, which extended south and west of the castle and church, have been broken through by the country road to Bodelshausen since 1889.

Hirrlinger Castle was built between 1557 and 1558 by Freiherr Georg VII. von Ow (1517-1575) in the Renaissance style, modelled after Bühler Castle, and is one of the few rural Renaissance castles in the district of Tübingen that has remained almost unchanged. Today, the castle rooms house the town hall.

St. Johannes Baptist (Hemmendorf) The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Bartholomew is located in Hemmendorf, a district of Rottenburg am Neckar in the Tübingen district of Baden-Württemberg. The parish belongs to the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart. The building is registered as a cultural monument by the State Office for Monument Preservation Baden-Württemberg. The hall church was built in the 14th century. It consists of a nave, which is closed off in a three-sided manner to the east. It was extended to the west in 1894/95. An octagonal roof turret rises from the saddle roof of the nave in the west, housing the tower clock and the belfry, and is covered by a pointed spire. Historical building Johanniter Castle Hemmendorf with Gothic parish church Since 1258, written documents have attested to a settlement of the Knights Hospitaller in Hemmendorf; moreover, the Knights Hospitaller owned Hemmendorf. The declared goal of the knightly order was the reconquest of the Holy Land with Jerusalem as its center. So-called commanders, usually influential nobles at the same time, led the order. In the many centuries of the residence's history, Augustin von Mörsberg und Belfort led the order and the village at the foot of the Rammert in the Krebsbach valley at the end of the 16th century. In 1805, the Knights Hospitaller lost their power, and Hemmendorf became Württembergian. State sovereignty remains the three-winged Johanniter Castle, built in 1791, and the Gothic parish church of St. Johannes Baptist. The castle serves as a schoolhouse, and the former monastery church became the Hemmendorf parish church.
