The shelter (French: 'Abri') was rebuilt in September 2025 and named 'Waldi,' as I learned from a knowledgeable local hiking guide. This new type of shelter was designed by the Club Vosgien Niederbronn-les-Bains; plans can be requested from them. During the day, a maximum of 15 people can sit and rest here (inside and outside combined). If necessary, the two wide benches in the fairly sheltered interior offer (at least!) two very comfortable sleeping places. A long-distance hiker's dream 😍 Hopefully, Waldi will be found in more places in the forest in the future! This (legal) multiple use of shelters is long overdue in Germany, too.

About 5 meters below the ruins there is a bench from which you have a great view of Obersteinbach and the castles and rocks on the other side of the valley.
