This is in dedication of Aneurin Bevan here is a plaque dedicated in his memory here is the memorial on this stone. Which only was put in place in the late memory of Sir, Aneurin Bevan, who was the actual true sole founder the man who had created the incredible service of our whole nation of the United Kingdom the live-saver service of the NHS - National Health Service. This is a historical site and lots of tourists whom have visited have said solely because they have an interest in the history and the background of the whole nature to the creation of the NHS.

Nant Milgatw Waterfall located near Trefil Tredegar Gwent. It’s Small waterfall on the back of the stream Nant Milgatw. Normally not this much water coming over the top like I’d experienced today. Hands down this has to be the stinkiest waterfall I’ve ever seen, water was filthy like brown sludge not what I expected to see. There is many of great walking routes that all can use the same start point as here or along the Trefil Rd, as I’ve gone way beyond this point previously and it’s definitely worth the explore there are so many other routes that can lead you up onto the surrounding mountainsides above. Including the incredible Chartists Cave. The Appropriate footwear is definitely required here as terrain can vary depending on the weather conditions route and height.

Yes, many trails in the region are designed as loops, so you can start and end in the same place without retracing your steps. A great example is the Coed Fedw-ddu loop from Brynmawr, which offers a pleasant walk through woodland scenery. Most routes in the area take advantage of the varied landscape to create engaging circular paths.
Blaenau Gwent has several options for easier, family-oriented walks. Parc Bryn Bach is a popular choice, offering accessible paths around its large lake. For a trail experience, the Abandoned Coal Mine loop from Cym Clydach National Nature Reserve is an easy route that is relatively flat and provides a glimpse into the area's history.
Most trails in Blaenau Gwent are suitable for walking with dogs, provided they are kept under control, especially near livestock. The open hillsides and woodland paths offer plenty of space. A good option is the Hiking loop from Aberbeeg, which follows the Ebbw Fach river. Always check for local signage regarding specific restrictions.
Yes, the region's 'rollercoaster landscape' provides some demanding routes. For a longer, more strenuous day out, consider the Serene Pond – Tyleri Valley Heights loop from Llanhilleth. This 20 km hike involves significant elevation gain, rewarding you with expansive views across the valleys.
Many trailheads are accessible via public transport. Towns like Ebbw Vale, Abertillery, and Brynmawr are well-connected by bus services, and Ebbw Vale has a train station. From these towns, you can often walk directly to the start of a trail or take a short local bus ride. It's best to plan your specific route in advance to check the nearest bus stop or station.
The region's industrial past is a key feature of many walks. You'll find routes that follow old tram roads and pass by remnants of mines and quarries. The Serene Pond – Tyleri Valley Heights loop from Cwmtillery is a great example, taking you through a landscape that has been reclaimed by nature from its industrial history.
For accessible paths, Parc Bryn Bach is the best destination in the area. It features a well-surfaced, relatively flat path around its 36-acre lake, making it ideal for wheelchairs and pushchairs. While many of the region's countryside trails have uneven surfaces and stiles, you can find more information on accessible local trails on the council website.
Hikers enjoy a variety of natural spaces in the region. Some of the most popular spots include:
The hilly terrain means most routes offer rewarding views. For a route that specifically climbs to a viewpoint, try the Cefn yr Ystrad Trig Point – The Flinty Stone loop from Waundeg. Reaching the trig point provides panoramic vistas over the surrounding moorland and valleys.
Parc Bryn Bach is an excellent choice as it has a visitor centre with a cafe on-site. You can enjoy a walk around the lake and then have refreshments with a view. The park is very popular and offers plenty of parking, making it a convenient option.
