Tips from the Community

Eric Mn
August 9, 2025, Alignement de la Pierre

The Pierre alignment is composed of three blocks aligned north-south. The one in the central position is of significant size. It is made of granite, 5.35 m high above ground and its weight is estimated at 35 tons. The two menhirs surrounding it come from a single block broken in two by an aplite vein that weakened it. These two blocks, discovered during the excavations of 1991-92, today make this monument unique. The wedge pits for each erected block were found during the excavations. The archaeological finds testify to different periods of occupation between the Neolithic and the Bronze Age.

Grab a quick coffee and something cold. And if you like, something sweet or savory, too. Benches right on the beach or the tables and chairs in front of the coffee shop are available.

Listed as a historic monument in 1978, it is an Angevin-type dolmen, similar to the Frébouchère dolmen but smaller, and whose general appearance must have been similar to that of the Sulette dolmen.

At the end of a short walkable path stands the most beautiful dolmen in the Vendée, also known as "Pierre-Couverte", classified as a Historic Monument since 1889.

At the end of a small path of about fifty meters, a small Neolithic dolmen of the Angevin type which was excavated, dismantled then reassembled between 1989 and 1994.
