Over a period of 22 years, from 1926 to 1948, a completely new abbey was built based on a design by architect Henri Vaes. In 1966, the municipality of Charleville-Mézières was created by the merger of several municipalities, making the Hôtel de Ville de Mézières the town hall of Charleville-Mézières.
