Restored forest house of a former duchess, which now functions as a free, unmanaged museum. Not only nice to see and to stop, but also a welcome stop for walkers and cyclists.

Not only are there benches in the shade, but drinking water / mountain water is also available, which is not an unnecessary luxury in this warm place. First pump six times as the sign indicates, to prevent you from drinking the stagnant water from the hose.

We even received a visit from a local fox, which is clearly fed here more often. We kept our distance ourselves (because you never know with rabies), but it was still a nice meeting. Highly recommended to stop here!

Beautiful spot with a historic bridge. It's a bit of a hike to get there and back up. Beautiful pebble beach.

Beautiful hike to the ruins of the Barrage de Malpasset. This is a former dam that suddenly and completely collapsed on the night of December 2, 1959. The flood destroyed several villages and cost 423 people their lives.

What a shame to have chased away the volunteer who had made this magical place in the Esterel so well. I feel bad for my France!

For the use of the Esteréls massif, especially for the exploitation of the cork oak, forest houses were built in the 19th century to accommodate the staff. The Duchess's forest house has been renovated for several years and is a very nice place for a break or a picnic. The name is associated with the laying of the foundation stone at the request of Napoleon III. connected by the Duchess of Vallombrosa (see also esterel-pour-tous.fr)

Mont Vinaigre is the highest peak of the Massif de l'Esterel. The altitude information varies between 614 m (Wikipedia), 618 m (Carte touristique) and 641 m (sign on the summit). You have a very nice view in all directions. On a fore summit there is a tower and transmitters, which are blocked off by a fence.

Superb site where you can admire the remains of the huge concrete blocks and the opening at the bottom of the dam 😳 Well shaded in the morning during my visit

Nice historic site for a walk in the massif with a view of the valleys which served as a reserve for the dam. Need to carry to pass behind the dam otherwise very rolling
