The funicular railway consists of two carriages connected by a wire rope that passes over a turntable at the top station. The downhill carriage pulls the uphill carriage with minimal additional energy consumption. The two carriages meet halfway along the route, which is why the single-track line has been double-tracked for a short section.

Funicular from 1905 - Muottas Muragl Muottas Muragl is the Engadin viewing mountain with a unique view of the Upper Engadin lake landscape and the Bernina massif. The funicular from 1905 was the first in the Engadin and still conveys a James Bond feeling today. Up at 2,456 m above sea level, a breathtaking panorama, romance and culinary delights await. Muottas Muragl invites you to snowshoe tours and winter hikes. The Philosopher's Trail leads along the thoughts of witty personalities such as Erich Kästner. On the short circular route "Senda d'Inspiraziun" you will find, among other things, the most precise sundial in the world. It shows the time with an accuracy of up to 10 seconds. Text / Source: ST. Muottas Muragl funicular If you want to see the Engadin, go to Muottas Muragl. This advertising slogan from a brochure from long ago is still valid today. The view of the Upper Engadin is unique! The Muottas Muragl railway was the first funicular in the Upper Engadin. Von Roll built it between 1905 and 1907. The drive was renewed in 1930, 1966 and 1992. The red carriages from 1962 are still there https://www.standseilbahnen.ch/muottas-muragl Text / Source: Engadin Tourismus AG, Via Maistra 1, St. Moritz https://www.engadin.ch/de/guide/berge-bahnen/bergbahn-tarife/bergbahnen-wintertarife/preise-schlittelbahn-muottas-muragl
