Die Geschichte von Le Hohwald ist eng mit der Confoederatio Helvetica verbunden. Nach 1648 hatte der damalige Herr des Ortes Siedler aus der Schweiz gerufen , die in dem Hochtal aussichtsreiche Weiden anlegten. Dennoch sind heute neun Zehntel der Gemeindefläche von Wäldern bestanden, die sich bis hoch zum Champ du Feu erstrecken.
