Trail Reviews

Efraim Petel
April 19, 2024, Stratobowl Rim Trail

While this is a short and easy trail, the view at to end is breathtaking. The location is dedicated to the Stratosphere Balloon Explorrer 3 thet Jose to the world altitude record of 72,395 feet in November 1900. It is a nice trail when you have a short ti.e gap that you need to fill in, just before flight out of Rapid City.

Today's hike will take us from a nondescript parking lot to a historically significant point in aerospace technology, the Stratobowl near Rapid City. Between 1934 and 1959, people flew into the stratosphere from here. Today, hot air balloons can still be seen from time to time.
