Embark on a moderate mountain biking adventure through the Maremma Regional Park with the Parco dell'Uccellina da Alberese — Giro ad anello. This 16.7-mile (26.9 km) loop, taking approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes, features 1191 feet (363 metres) of elevation gain, offering a mix of flat sections and undulating terrain. You will cycle through ancient olive groves, pine forests, and Mediterranean vegetation, enjoying panoramic sea views and following the Ombrone River's beautiful green spectacle. A highlight is reaching pristine beaches like Collelungo, often backed by fragrant pine forests.

Starting from Alberese, a well-known access point, this route provides a complete experience of the park's diverse ecosystems. While the Giro ad anello is rated as moderate, the wider Maremma Regional Park offers a range of routes suitable for various skill levels, from comfortable asphalt roads to more challenging climbs. Plan your visit to enjoy the varied landscapes and ensure you are prepared for both paved and short stretches of dirt road.

This trail stands out for its excellent coastal access, allowing you to combine cycling with relaxing by the sea. It also offers a unique opportunity to observe local wildlife, such as Maremma cattle and horses, grazing in their natural habitat. The presence of historical elements, like ancient watchtowers and the Abbey of San Rabano, adds a rich cultural dimension to your ride through this protected natural area.

Trail Reviews

Mik
June 2, 2023, Salita a San Rabano

ATTENTION ❗️ Hiking trail, only for experts, suitable only for mountain bikes. The ascent up to the ancient monastery of San Rabano can be covered without particular problems, but the descent to the sea towards the beach of Collelungo has several loose pebbles and roots that emerge from the ground, furthermore the dense vegetation dominates the very narrow path making it difficult the view. It is necessary to proceed with caution, above all because people on foot can be found along the way. The landscapes, on the other hand, are wonderful and the Monastery of San Rabano is well preserved and can be visited for free.
