This route was planned by komoot.
Komoot classifies this hike as difficult, while local guides often describe it as moderate. The trail is approximately 11.65 km long with around 212 meters of elevation gain and loss, taking about 3.5 hours to complete. Its difficulty stems from varied terrain, including rocky sections, frequent ascents and descents, and some exposed passages near steep cliffs. Good physical condition and appropriate footwear are recommended.
The trail offers a diverse landscape. You'll walk along rocky paths, navigate ascents and descents, and traverse stretches of sandy beaches and wild coves. Some sections run very close to the sea, with exposed areas. You'll also pass through Mediterranean vegetation like pines and oaks. Sturdy hiking boots are essential for the rocky parts.
Hikers can enjoy magnificent panoramic views throughout the route. Key highlights include the View of Île Longue and Île de la Ratonnière, the View of the Pointe des Chevaliers, and a Fantastic view of the Giens Peninsula. You'll also pass by the historic La Tour Fondue fort, fine sandy beaches like La Badine and Pradeau Beach, and secluded coves with turquoise waters.
The trail typically starts near La Tour Fondue. Parking is available in the vicinity, but it can get busy, especially during peak season. Arriving early is advisable to secure a spot.
Public transport options are available to reach the Giens Peninsula. You can check local bus schedules for routes that serve the area around La Tour Fondue. Specific bus lines connect from Hyères to the peninsula.
Information regarding dogs on this specific trail is not explicitly stated in the provided sources. However, as a general rule for trails in natural areas, dogs are often permitted but usually require to be kept on a leash to protect local wildlife and ensure the safety of other hikers. It's always best to check local regulations before your visit.
While generally considered moderate, some sections of the trail are steep and described as 'exposed,' potentially making them unsuitable for very young children. Families with older, experienced hiking children might find it enjoyable, but caution is advised for the more challenging parts. The varied terrain and length could also be demanding for small children.
The trail can be enjoyed year-round, even in winter. However, spring is particularly beautiful when the landscape is adorned with vibrant flowers. The Mediterranean climate makes it pleasant for hiking outside of the hottest summer months. Always check weather conditions before heading out.
The Sentier du Littoral – La Tour Fondue is located within the wider area of the Port-Cros National Park. While there are no general entrance fees for accessing the mainland sections of the park or the trail itself, visitors are expected to respect national park regulations regarding environmental protection, waste disposal, and fire prevention. Specific rules might apply to certain sensitive areas or during high fire risk periods.
Yes, the route primarily follows "Le sentier du Littoral – La Tour Fondue" for a significant portion. It also passes through sections of other trails such as "Sentier du Littoral" at various points, and briefly touches on "Autour de la cité des palmiers".
Yes, La Tour Fondue itself is a notable feature, and being a departure point for boats to Porquerolles Island, you can expect to find some facilities, including cafes or restaurants, in the immediate vicinity or nearby areas on the Giens Peninsula.
The trail passes by several fine sandy beaches, such as Plage du Pontillon, La Badine, and Pradeau Beach, as well as secluded wild coves with turquoise waters. These spots offer excellent opportunities for swimming in the Mediterranean Sea, making wild swimming a popular activity along the route.
Part of the church of Giens-return to the church I think 14kms
Wonderful views. Challenging route. I was glad to have arrived. Contrary to the route information, it was 600 meters in elevation at the end 😊🇨🇵
Alternative to kiting when there is not enough wind (today only 16 kn) and from the south
Very beautiful and varied tour in the national park on the Presqu'île de Giens. The view you get over the coast is fantastic. It's worth taking a bathing suit with you if the weather is good. However, you shouldn't expect to be alone on a long stretch; even at the end of October there was still a lot going on here. :) From time to time the path is very close to the slope and there are isolated sections where flip-flops clearly reach their limits. In the northern section at the junction with Av René de Knyff, the Sentiers de Littoral was not accessible in October 2024. In Port du Niel, the path directly at the Plague du Niel is officially closed (there seems to be some storm damage here), but very few people seem to adhere to this.
What a beautiful, varied tour along the narrow coastal path, up and down, over stones, roots, forest floor, stairs with fantastic views. It was windy and sure-footedness is required on the way.
Relatively strenuous but very beautiful tour on the Sentier Littoral on the Presqu'île de Giens peninsula.
Caution: meters in altitude are deceptive. Watch showed just over 500 HM...
strong mistral The southern part of the island was leeward and therefore partly sheltered but the rest of the loop in the northern and western part to the wind was very exposed Coastal path / GR / coastal path with magnificent views of the sea and beautiful beaches along the route
