This route was planned by komoot.
This loop trail is considered to have a medium difficulty due to its length and elevation gain. However, it has no significant technical difficulty, making it accessible to a broader range of mountain bikers.
While specific parking areas aren't detailed, you can typically find parking near the major landmarks like the Sanctuary of San Romedio or Castel Thun, which are excellent starting points for this loop.
The trail offers a blend of natural beauty and cultural landmarks. You'll pass by the picturesque Lake Coredo, the iconic Sanctuary of San Romedio, and the majestic Castel Thun. The route also winds through lush forests, charming villages, and extensive apple orchards.
Given its medium difficulty in terms of length and elevation gain, and its overall duration, this trail might be challenging for very young children. However, its lack of significant technical difficulty means it could be suitable for families with older, experienced children who are comfortable with longer rides.
The trail is particularly beautiful in spring when the apple orchards are in full blossom, offering stunning scenery. The warmer months of summer and early autumn also provide pleasant riding conditions.
Generally, dogs are allowed on trails in the Val di Non area, provided they are kept on a leash. Always ensure you clean up after your pet and respect local regulations.
No specific permits or entrance fees are required to ride this mountain biking trail itself. However, if you plan to visit attractions like Castel Thun, there may be separate admission fees.
The trail features varied terrain, including paved roads, cemented paths, and dirt roads. You'll ride through forests, villages, and apple orchards, with panoramic views of the Brenta Dolomites in the distance.
Yes, the route also passes through sections of other official trails such as Via Vigilius - Tappa 5, Sentiero Frassati - Tappa 6, and Pista Ciclabile Taio - Sabino.
The trail passes through charming villages and near popular landmarks like San Romedio and Castel Thun. You can expect to find cafes, restaurants, or small shops in these areas to refuel during your ride.
For this medium-difficulty mountain biking loop, we recommend bringing plenty of water, snacks, a repair kit for your bike, appropriate cycling gear, sun protection, and a fully charged phone. A map or GPS device is also advisable, though the trail is well-marked.
A special thank you to @Alessandro Sottil Miraval Hotel for helping us discover little-known trails that offer great satisfaction. 🏰 Phase 1: The Castles' Ascent The tour starts from Vigo di Ton. You ascend towards Castel Thun, the symbol of the valley. After passing the manor, the route continues towards Castel Bragher, immersing you in a landscape where apple orchards gradually give way to the woods. Following the course of the Rio Valle [Trail Rio Valle](this section was done by mistake, the correct track is a little further, still on the left), you climb back towards the village of Sfruz. 🌲 Phase 2: Lakes and Spirituality From Sfruz, you cross Smarano and the locality Perlonga, proceeding on rolling, very scenic terrain. You then descend towards the Lakes of Coredo and Tavon before climbing back to the outskirts of Tavon. Here begins a technical and flowing single track [trail del Maneggio], fun and never trivial, which leads back to the provincial road. Following the asphalt, you reach the Sanctuary of San Romedio, one of the most iconic places in Europe. 🏔️ Phase 3: The Predaia Plateau From the Sanctuary, the ascent towards Lake Tavon begins. You travel along the "Strada Panoramica" to the Via Lucis, a path that leads to the Madonna of Smarano. From here, the route heads towards the Sette Larici locality. The climb continues decisively towards the Valle della Lama, until reaching the Predaia and Sores mountain huts. 🚵 Phase 4: The Adrenaline of Trail 1423 After a short stretch on asphalt, you leave the main road to enter [Trail 1423]. The single track descends sharply through roots, loose stones, and tight corners, offering a technical and engaging section that quickly leads towards Vervò. 🍏 Phase 5: Return through the "Strade del Mont" From Vervò, you take the Strada del Mont and then the Strada Piana. These sections offer a well-deserved rest after the technical descent, crossing woods and clearings with gentle slopes. The route closes the loop, returning near Castel Thun, offering a final view of the Val di Non before returning to Vigo di Ton.
