Gilbert's Porth Beach

Clamouring over stones from either side is the only land route in. I came from the footpath side and had the beach to myself. The cove was sheltered and the sea a gradual shelf, so a cold but relatively safe swim spot. Do as I did and pick up some litter, there wasn't a lot, but because it is remote it is what has washed up, I found a plastic bottle with Chinese writing on it amongst other places.

Double the time it says I was hiking to get a more realistic picture, especiallyif loke me only daytripping on the island. Well worth doing, but stay hydrated and bring a pack lunch as there is nothing once you leave Hugh Town (which you do revisit after the barracks) Recommend Hugh Street Cafe for a coffe and good breakfast, and …
