Another lovely walk around NewmillerDam and Lunch at the Dam Pub
Usual meander around Newmillerdam. A nice sunny day 😎 I saw 6 Cormorants, never seen that many before. A couple of Grebes. Plus, the Cygnets are huge now. There are also many trails throughout the woods.
A nice walk to the Dam Inn for lunch, not very sunny but ok Once called Thurstonhaugh, an old Norse name, the area became known as New Mylle on Dam when a new corn-mill was built around 1285. The country park was once part of an estate which was owned by the Pilkington family. In the 1870s the family built nine lodges to house the gamekeepers who protected the site from poachers. Two lodges can still be seen today guarding the Dam. The Boathouse was built in the 1820s as a place for entertaining friends and family. Men would shoot wildfowl on the lake and ladies would join them for lunch.
This was a lovely walk but for some reason I couldn't take any photos. My friend took the photos and o have just up loaded them They are all newly set out around the dam. Such talented people out there. However the Duck were real hehe
I really enjoy this walk and lunch at the Dam Inn It is accessible around the dam and many trails above for the more adventuress
Another walk around Newwmillerdam and there is always lots to see. Nice to see the Grebes but didn't see the Mandarin Ducks today The water leaves the Dam and makers up the Owler Beck. This eventually joins the River Calder
