The crest of Txurregi can be windy, and the initial descent from the summit is stony.

Is the Txurregi from Ilzarbe – circular via Gaztelu trail suitable for beginners?

Given its 'difficult' rating, significant elevation gain, and the very steep 'hard ramp' to Txurregi, this trail is not recommended for beginners. It's best suited for hikers with a good level of fitness and experience. While some experienced hikers might find parts 'quite simple,' the overall challenge requires preparation.

Where can I park to access the trailhead in Ilzarbe?

The trail starts from the village of Ilzarbe. While specific parking details aren't always explicit, you can typically find parking within or at the edge of small villages like Ilzarbe, often near the church or a central square. It's advisable to arrive early, especially on weekends, to secure a spot.

What are the main points of interest along the route?

The primary highlights are the summits themselves. You'll reach the Txurregi Summit (1,121 m) and Monte Gaztelu (998 m), both offering extensive panoramic views. Is this trail dog-friendly?

September 24, 2023, Navarra-Ollo: Txurregi

- Garmin data: 4:14h total time, 670m total elevation gain. Video: https://www.relive.cc/view/vRO782Wooy6 - NOTE: I had a little respect for climbing the north face, and that's why we chose the south, along the path that leaves from Ollo. But, being at the top, we "dared" to go down the dreaded north face, the one that goes down/up with a knife, almost frontally. And the truth is that it wasn't that bad. In fact, in the zigzag going up north there was some section worse than the way down north. And by the way, the views from the Txurregi and from the East viewpoint... BEAUTIFUL, I loved this "mountain" route, which I had my eye on for a long time.
