All information about the tour, one of the most beautiful hikes in the Mairatal: https://hikingthealps.com/sentiero-pier-giorgio-frassati-mairatal/
https://www.vallemaira.org/esperienze/sentiero-piergiorgio-frassati/ Beautiful loop, with incredible views in a wild environment. Many Germans, Dutch, Swiss, Austrians, and French
Challenging but beautiful journey. We left at nine o'clock and returned at 5.30 pm, with breaks - yes. Of course you come across someone every now and then, but the marmots (!) are by far the majority. Also spotted a deer or something like that, or was it a Capricorn after all? It was very high. He's in one of the photos, so who knows?
It starts from the Maira springs and climbs through a larch wood, arriving at a point from which you can see Lake Visaisa. There are the remains of the Principe di Piemonte hotel, which burned down in 1924. We then continue to the Bonelli bivouac, where we can see Lake Apsoi at the foot of Monte Oronaye. Walking along the slopes you arrive at Passo della Cavalla, where there are abandoned military structures. Descend into the Vallone della Pausa, between the Viraysse and the Sautron. Once in Grange Pausa, continue along a path that leads to Sorgenti Maira. The route from Sorgenti del Maira to Lake Visaisa is suitable for families.
After the storm and rain clouds had already cleared up yesterday evening, we are greeted by bright sunshine today. Right after breakfast we start the circular hike from Saretto, past the Maira springs to Lago Visaisa. There's hardly any water in there. Unimaginable, but 100 years ago boats were already being rowed across the lake here. Fortunately, after the lake, the path does not climb quite as steeply. We take a short break at Bivacco Bonelli at 2,330m. Another hour to Passo de Cavallo. You hike here in the Italian-French border area. Everywhere you can still find barbed wire and other border security from the 1st World War. From the Passo de Cavallo there are fantastic views of the Cottian Alps, simply grandiose. From the Grange Pausa, 2,055m, a dreamlike single winds its way down. Let's see how I can get my bike up there.
Endless marmots and then Eagles, Chamois, Merens Horses
8 hours in paradise! Not a cloud, the gold of autumn everywhere. Wonder!!
